Poem: from the rain

I walked that way this morning
The way we all danced home last night
Dark but bathed in moonshine
And the light from your soft eyes

And you were vaulting all the puddles
Because you’d bought these brand new shoes
They were pink and wafer thin
And made to have no use

You’re just a girl in love with life and you don’t know it
There’s something deeper in your smile, one day you’ll show it
One day you’ll see you cry because you love the pain and want a friend to hide with from the rain

You come crying back to me again
‘Tell me, what should I do?’
And I say the same thing every time
‘I would walk away from you’

But I wish that I could
I wish I meant enough to you
To leave you hurt, when you hurt me
In finding your 'something new'
